Gallup estimated that if companies could get 3.7 percent more work out
of each employee, the equivalent of 18 more minutes of work each
eight-hour shift, the gross domestic product in the United States would
swell by $355 billion, twice the GDP of Greece.

The article I grabbed this from on the site Manage Smarter, is really geared toward training as a complement to motivation but I thought the figure was staggering.  What would a 3.7 percent increase in productivity do for your company?

    Looking at that figure, how much has our GDP and company revenues increased over the last 10-20 years because of increased productivity? Overall economic productivity numbers are higher than ever, so you figure that it has really benefited companies and the economy. But, then it poses this question: how much more productive can we get?
